Hello and welcome to my speaking in tongues page, of which some christians say that you must absolutely speak in tongues as a sign of having the Holy Spirit and being saved.
What does God's word have to say about this subject of speaking in tongues?
Let us cut to the chase and go straight way to Acts 2:1-4 " And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. v2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. v3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. v4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1. These tongues were known languages(NOT RANDOM BABBLING that no one could understand as you see in modern churches), because in verse 6 every man heard the apostles speak in a known language. Verse 9 gives a list on the different countries from which the Jews had come for pass-over, which consisted of many different known languages. In order for them to hear and understand the gospel of Jesus Christ in their own tongue or language, the Spirit gave the apostles the gift of divers tongues or languages.
2. Not every believer gets the same gift, "1 Cor 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; v9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; v10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues. So according to the bible, not every believer receives the same gift; in question divers tongues.
3. The gifts of the Spirit are listed in order, " 1
Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.( By the way diversities of tongues come in dead last on the list). Then Paul writes in v29, " Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? v30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? Apparently the Corinthians were making the same mistake that the modern-day church is making of assigning one particular gift of the Spirit to all believers(speaking in tongues), because in 1 Cor 13:1 Paul is saying that the one gift above all the others is charity or love, and that all believer must have charity or love, not speaking in tongues.
4. When the gifts of tongues is used among the church, Paul states that this must happen: 1 Cor 14:27 " If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
A. Only two, and at the most three speaking in tongues.
B. They must speak by course, or one at a time. Because God is not the author of confusion, 1 Cor 14:33 and 1 Corinthians 14:40, "Let all things be done decently and in order.
C. One of the two or three speaking in tongues must interpret what is being spoken or else, let him keep silent in the church, 1 Cor 14:28.
5. The gift of tongues cannot be taught to anyone, because it is a free gift that comes only from the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor 12:7
This is absolutely not what happens in modern-day churches and if you're honest you know it to be so. This kind of mass babbling is not of the Spirit of God, but comes from another spirit or a counterfeit spirit. Did you not know that the pagans priests in their Satanic rituals would all babble in unknown tongues or forked tongues usually while beating drums for long periods of time, which is exactly what happen in modern-day churches. God sends cloven tongues by HIS spirit, but Satan sends forked tongues, which is a SUBTLE deadly error or counterfeit against God's word. Study the following videos carefully so that you will know God's will when it comes to the subject of speaking in tongues. God bless and see you soon!
